Blank white screen of death

  • Hey guys,

    after years and years with wordpress, that damn blank screen of death finally hit me.

    I tried everything:
    – rename the plugin directory on ftp, I even deleted them
    – delete the theme

    – check if there is enough webspace
    there are two website running on this server. there are still 60mb free, which is not sooo much, but should be enough to run wordpress. the second website doesn’t make trouble at all.

    I have totally no clue what to do. The website is clear pure white, wp-admin is also white. it still shows the favicon though!

    I have no idea what happend. the user of the website told me, she was uploading pictures and videos. during the upload the thumbnail didn’t show up, just some grey file icons. I don’t know why, but she did refresh the whole browser-session. maybe the upload was re-initiated? after this, the website became blank.
    however, I deleted the pics and videos via FTP, but site is still not running.
    it’s quite frustrating, is my last choice to delete everything and to reinstall wordpress?

    blank page seems like a problem with .htaccess document. you may check http permissions again.

    Hi Ializ, thank you for your link. I did overwrite all the files except for the config and the wp-content directory.
    however, it still won’t work ??

    @ AKINAKTANSEL: thanks. I checked the permissions, they look fine for me. like all the other wp-sites.

    I really have NO CLUE at all, what to do with that blank white page… ??

    if all the files in the ftp directory are fine (because new uploaded), could it be a database issue??

    I checked the databases in phpMyAdmin and it says they are all OK.

    so, anybody could help me please?

    for some reason, I used /wp-admin/about.php and then it said something like “the database needs to be updated”, i clicked on the button and now it kinda works again.

    honestly. it would be so easier if there was some code like 404, telling me what to do. I deleted and renamed all kinds of files last week, reuploaded wordpress, and so on..!
