  • Hi Skygirl

I think this could be a php version issue at server level.

Maybe ask your host what version PHP they are running (and see if it is older than 5.2.16), or you could try using an older version (1.3) of WPB2D found here.

    Hope that helps!

Hi Judge-Mentals! ?? My host (WestHost) says they are running PHP 5.6. I will try WPB2D 1.3 and see how that goes. Thank you!

Not sure that will work for you Skygirl, considering they seem to be running a version of PHP newer than 5.2.16, but see how you go!

Another backup plugin I have been trying out lately, with two of my sites unable to use WPB2D for various reasons, is UpdraftPlus. It too backs up to Dropbox, which is a big plus for me, but unless you shell out some dollars all backups go into the one folder (though the backup files are named by site name). It also doesn’t backup the WP core (unlike WPB2D) and it’s also a little trickier to schedule the backups (again, a paid extension for this).

Still, for two problematic sites it now seems to be backing up just fine (one site there seemed to be simply too many images, and cleaning them all up not really an option. The other, the job just wouldn’t start and I couldn’t figure out why not. I think a cron job problem).

Thanks for the UpdraftPlus suggestion. I’m trying that but getting 500 errors when trying to authenticate with Dropbox. In the meantime, I noticed LOTS of these errors in the PHP error log that might shed some light on what’s up with WPB2D.

[05-Apr-2016 05:23:49 UTC] WordPress database error Column ‘offset’ cannot be null for query INSERT INTO wp_wpb2d_processed_files (file, uploadid, offset) VALUES (‘/path-to-plugin-file-being-backed-up.ext’, NULL, NULL) made by do_action_ref_array, call_user_func_array, run_dropbox_backup, WPB2D_BackupController->execute, WPB2D_BackupController->backup_path, WPB2D_Processed_Files->add_files, WPB2D_Processed_Base->upsert

Does this help anyone sort out what’s going on? Thanks!

For the WPB2D errors you are seeing, you might be better off emailing your question to [email protected] (the plugin authors rarely check this forum).

Regarding UpDraftPlus, do you mean you are getting a 500 error (which off the top of my head is an internal server error) or do you mean you are getting hundreds of errors?

Gotcha, thanks! I meant a 500 internal server error… there are probably way over 500 of them in the log. ?? Thanks!

OK, maybe refresh my memory on the process (I have only used UpDraftPlus twice, both without issue, so I’m hazy on the detail).

You install the plugin, at some point it wants you to authenticate dropbox access, you click that option, do you then get the 500 internal server error (ie. on your URL) or do you end up being redirected to Dropbox? From memory what should happen is you get redirected to Dropbox, and it asks you if you want to authenticate. Just trying to understand when exactly the error you are reporting occurs (and what the URL is at the time, which kinda tells me if it’s your WP server giving the error, or Dropbox)

I get the 500 error before redirecting to Dropbox (while trying to load this url: https://domain.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=updraftplus&action=updraftmethod-dropbox-auth&updraftplus_dropboxauth=doit).
