As many others, I have a blank screen in Google Site Kit. It happened after I replaced the existing website with a new version of the website, from another wordpress install. I read many similar issues on the forum, but nothing worked. I tried resetting Site Kit, I trie the Troubleshooting mode, tried the Incognito mode, tried unsinstalling and re-installing, tried lowering the PHP version… Please help.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks for reaching out @sublimedigital, and appreciate you sharing the troubleshooting steps you performed. To troubleshoot this further, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. What is the URL you land back on when attempting setup? I ask as this may contain a no longer valid callback URL, based on your previous site.?
    3. Do you have access to the old site? I ask as if so, you can complete Site Kit setup on this old site, so this old site is then connected to the Site Kit service. Only then will a reset (on your old site) allow you to connect with your new site.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    1. I sent you the requested info through the Google Form.
    2. When I tried to connect to Site Kit, I just have this url https://villasophie.fr/wp-admin/admin.php?page=googlesitekit-splash with blank screen.
    3. I did a backup of the old site and then replaced it completely with the new version of the site, so I cannot connect to the old site’s Site kit dashboard. For info, I kept the same url structure with the same WordPress theme.

Appreciate the update @sublimedigital. Based on reviewing your site, and the checks performed, I suspect that your site records on the Site Kit service don’t match your current site setup. This may be based on what looks like a custom wp-admin path. When you had Site Kit successfully connected previously (on your old site), were you using the same custom wp-admin path currently active?

If possible, can you revert to the previously used wp-admin path if known, before attempting Site Kit setup once more. If you didn’t use a custom path, please temporarily deactivate your WPS Hide Login plugin and ensuring you’re using the default path, before attempting Site Kit set up once more.

If the same occurs, I can request a check of your site records on the service. In order for me to do so, please share a?screen recording of your experience. You can use a service such as Loom or RecordIt to share a screen recording, while using the same form previously used to share this privately.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.

Thank you for your ultra fast replies. I just shared with you a Google Drive link with the screen recording.

Many thanks for sharing the recording. Given that you’re unable to access the initial plugin setup based on the very useful video you shared, let’s first of all perform a couple more checks. To do so, please follow the steps below. I’m aware you’ve followed many of the steps below already, however, I did notice a htaccess_extra_rules: true record from your Site Health information, which may indicate some changes to your .htaccess file which are impacting setup.

    1. Login to your live site from a Chrome browser incognito window.
    2. Visit your permalinks page (Settings > Permalinks) and press the “Save change” button. This will re-create your .htaccess file.
    3. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
    4. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google“.
    5. Attempt to set up Site Kit once more.

If a blank screen appears once more, please share any browser console errors that appear and we can investigate this further.

    Thread Starter SublimeDigital

    (@sublimedigital)

The ‘issue’ that appears in the Console is:
JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 3.4.1
    load-scripts.php?c=1&load%5Bchunk_0%5D=jquery-core,jquery-migrate,utils,moxiejs,plupload&ver=6.4.3:5

I also have 23 other ‘errors’, mostly like this:
Refused to execute script from ‘https://villasophie.fr/……….’ because its MIME type (‘text/html’) is not executable, and strict MIME type checking is enabled.

Thanks for the update @sublimedigita, getting closer to the source now! It looks like there may be some blocks either at host level or via your firewall or security plugin. There are a couple of ways we can check this further. In order to do so, please share the following:

    1. Do you see any invalid XHR responses on the blank screen? If so please share them using the same form previously used, and not publicly here in the forums.?
    2. Can you confirm no issues setting up Site Kit using this disposable WordPress site? This would help rule out local or browser related issues.
    3. Do you see any warnings or errors when checking yourSite Health status? (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs from your Site Health information requested above? Such errors may include REST endpoint references.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. While you’re obtaining the above I’ll also check some possible configurations at host level. It looks like you may be using Namecheap, so I will perform some checks in the meantime.

    Thread Starter SublimeDigital

    (@sublimedigital)

I am indeed using Namecheap, where I host various other websites and Google Site Kit works perfectly on all the other sites on the same hosting server.

    Thread Starter SublimeDigital

    (@sublimedigital)

    1. there are no XHR responses issues on the blank page.
    2. When accesing the disposable website, I can see the Site Kit page without problem
    3. I only have 1 recommended improvement regarding the default theme available.

    (@jamesosborne)

Thanks for the update @sublimedigital. I’ve been reviewing your active plugins and a couple of them do have features that can block requests, including your firewall that does seem to store a log of all blocked requests. Any configurations here, mixed with any caching at site or host level may be impacting normal functionality. I’ll perform some checks and report back to you here if that’s ok.

While I’m running some checks, you may wish to see if you’re able to proceed after configuring your Site Kit secret keys. This may be of particular use if one of your security plugins has altered any of the additions added by Site Kit to your database.

    Thread Starter SublimeDigital

    (@sublimedigital)

I have added the 2 ‘define’ lines into the wp-config.php file, but it does not seem to change anything.

However, even if I deactivate BBQ Firewall, Blackhole for bad bots and Litespeed cache, I still get the blank screen while trying to access Site Kit.

Also, I am using the same set cache/firewall plugins on all my websites, on the same hosting server, and it works fine.

    (@jamesosborne)

Thanks for the update @sublimedigital, and appreciate the wait. From the checks I performed I can confirm no issues with default configuration for both security related plugins mentioned. As to why some scripts are blocked, which I suspect to be Site Kit scripts based on no network requests, I’m still unsure.

In order for me to check this with the team further, can you make one further recording of your experience? This time, in the recording from a Chrome browser incognito window, please reset Site Kit first (Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit), then access the Site it dashboard with your browsers developer tools open, displaying any console errors as you accessed them previously. If you notice any Site Kit related error, please expand on this error which may provide further insights.

Feel free to share this recording privately using the same form previously used if preferred.

    Hi again,

I just sent you the link to the video using the form. There was an issue related to Site Kit. Let me know if you see something else you’d like me to expand on.

    Thanks.

Many thanks for sharing @sublimedigital. Please allow me some time to check this with the team before reporting back to you here. I’ll have an update for you tomorrow at the latest.
