Blank page with ‘X’ when clicking on a link

Hello!
When I click on a link (internal or external) a blank page with ‘x’ in the upper right corner appears. If I right-click and try to access pages that way it works.
I use the simpleMag theme and I’m on WP 5.6 (I downgraded unpurpose but didn’t solve the problem)
I already tried deactivating all the plugins, didnt’ work and I’m not using the lightbox plugin, which seems to be a problem for others.Also the images in the blogposts seem to have disappeared in the same time…

I cannot seem to find the right file. The code I see that relates to swipebox is in the jqury.assets.js file and doesn’t look at all like the code shared here: https://github.com/mho79/swipebox/
I added the jquery.swipebox.js file (that I couldn’t find anywhere on my server) but it didn’t solve the problem.
