  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress 3.8.3. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress asap.
    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

so i tried both renaming the themes folder and reuploading the files you described without a result. When i renamed the themes folder to -old even the frontend was returning a white-blank page.

Rename wp-content/themes-old back to wp-content/themes. Then rename your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes.

It looks like it was not even a problem of my setup after all. The host the site is running on, had a problem and blocked all logins. It is fixed now and i will be updating everything including wordpress ASAP.

    thank you for your time.
