I have migrated my WordPress site from an older server to a new one. Everything seems to be working fine with one exception. When I try to edit the main page of my site, it is blank in the editor. When I display the website, the content is there. If I try to roll back to a previous version of the page, most of the information shows up twice on the website, but only once in the editor.

In the editor it shows word count 0 for this one page.
I have disabled every plugin, same issue.
I can edit the other 12 Pages with no problem, only this one page is a problem.
When I go to Appearance | Customize | Homepage Settings and choose a different page, it does change as expected, and I can still edit the new homepage, but the old homepage when I try to edit still shows up as blank.
I inherited this site, and cannot replicate the code in the page myself.

  • Hi Gary. So you can’t see it in Visual but can you in Text?

There’s only 3 things that come to mind that I would try.

    1. If using Block Editor, try Classic Editor; visa versa
    2. Duplicate page and see if content is there
    3. Disable any Ad Blocks on your wp-admin browser page cuz nowadays it stops a lot from working

    Good Luck!

    Hi @charlyibc
    Thank you for the suggestions.
    1. I did (but forgot to mention) that I tried both Classic and Block Editors, same results, as well as Visual and text modes.
    2. I did not try this, should have guessed there would be a plug in to do so, but unfortunately it yielded the same issue, now I have a copy of a blank page, that does actually show information. lol truly a duplicate.
    3. I’m not familiar with Ad Blocks on my wp-admin browser page, if you mean on the browser I am using, I have tried on multiple browsers (PC – Chrome, Firefox, Edge) (Chrome-book – Chrome) (Mac – Safari, Chrome, Firefox)

But I think I just stumbled onto something. Under Page attributes there is a template assigned to this page. If I switch to the default template, the contents of the page go away. If I switch back to the custom template, the page comes back. So now I’m off to learn about templates, where to find them, and how to modify them. Thank you for the suggestions, and helping me to further troubleshoot this.

You’re welcome. Re: #2 Do you mean you can see the content on the page or it’s still blank? You’re answer is a bit confusing for me lol

Page custom templates are usually part of a theme, plugin or built by someone.
