I have had upgrades before, everything should be fine, but I get a blank page. After directing my page to “upgrade” it did so and finally I could see the admin page, but when I go to “View Site” I get a blank white page.

    Any idea why that is?

  • Clear your browser cache
    Disable any plugins
Clear/delete any cache folders if using a caching plugin
Change to the WordPress Default theme.

    Okay, cleared the browser cache,
    All plugins are disabled
No caching plugin installed, only askimet spam, and it’s disabled
I’ve changed to the default theme, still a blank screen.

    Hmmm

And Michael, thanks for the rapid reply. I’ve never seen such quick and rapid support on the forums

A link to see the problem.

Or consider redoing Steps 7 and 8 of Upgrading WordPress Extended. Make sure you are using the ASCII transfer mode in your FTP client.

Since I can see the dashboard, I clicked on the “upgrade” and it is doing a “re-install” to the current 2.7 version.

If after that it does not work, I’ll make another note and send you the link. I’d send you a link now, but it’s password protected to even be viewable.

And again thanks for the awesome and quick responses.

Well disable the password for now–does that solve the problem?

If you have control over the server, you could try turning on PHP error reporting to see a little more information.

I guess I’d need to disable the password in the dashboard somewhere?

I can see that the re-install is still working, I can watch some things happening on the FTP server end, so hopefully with that process something might happen that takes care of the problem, crossing my fingers.

    Well,

I’m at a loss as to what the problem is. I re-uploaded all the files via FTP too, but still get that blank page.

Check for any errors on your server, for instance if there is an error_log file.

I just uploaded all of those anew, and now I only had one error:

File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.
    Files updated: 67

    Files with errors: 1
    blog:wp-includes:capabilities.php

    Oh,

Michael, to answer your initial question, I can’t find an error other than the FTP error I posted. I’ve logged into my cPanel and don’t find where it would be, no log file that I’ve found.

Well it still doesn’t seem like you are getting a complete FTP upload. So keep trying. I use FileZilla 2.2.32 and it works good for uploading WordPress files.

I’m using Dreamweaver’s FTP, and it has never before had failure to upload like it is now. I continue to upload again when it says some files had errors, and they work the next round. I’m uploading the whole thing again right now. This sure is strange.
