Blank front page

    My WP website https://tangokortrijk.be has been working ok for many years but since a couple of months the front page appears as blank (only the page content is not showing). During the same period the hosting company has updated php to a newer version, but I am not sure the issue might be related to this updating.

    I have checked that the original page is still published, that it’s still correctly pointing to the front page, and the menu item “Over ons” is also still correctly set. I have deactivated all plugins (removed info in the database) and reactivated them again. WP core, theme (Colormag) and plugins are all updated to the latest versions. These actions have not resolved the problem.

    I use a child theme and by replacing it by the main theme (Colormag), the front page content IS appearing. Does this mean that something is wrong in the child theme ? I do not have the knowledge to understand what might be wrong in the php code.

    But to answer your question — generally speaking, if the parent theme works and the child theme does not, it’s something wrong in the child theme’s code. If you’re not comfortable with checking error logs, comparing code etc, I’d recommend reaching out to whoever provided, sold, or created the theme for you. They should be able to help.
