I just updated the plugin on my website. Then I opened a post to edit it. There was NO TEXT in the edit window regardless of whether I was in the Visual or Text view. Other custom fields on the post edit page showed text. The Yoast area on the post also seemed odd — no text, just the icons. As soon as I deactivated the Yoast SEO plugin, all returned to normal.

I’m concerned about re-installing the plugin. Any thoughts what is going on? The plugin has been a part of my website for a long time. No new themes or theme updates and no new plugins. I updated JetPack and Yoast SEO only prior to the problem.

    Thanks.

  • I started an issue on GitHub, but the developers don’t seem to grasp the concept of inline-javascript vs using files that can be defer loaded.

So no movement so far :-/

The quick fix is to find a defer loader plugin which is inactive on the admin pages – Or to rewrite the defer loader you have in functions.php to have an !is_admin() condition set when being loaded.

Thanks for the update and for submitting the issue. I keep looking for a plugin update, but… none yet.

Can you send us a list of your active plugins and themes, so that we may replicate the issue on our side?

This may be a browser issue as I’m not able to recreate the issue in Firefox. In Chrome, I deactivated everything until only Twenty Seventeen and Yoast were activated (I also disabled my extensions), and the issue still occurred. It occurs in Opera as well. No console errors were reported in either browser.

I’m afraid I can’t be much help in troubleshooting the issue as I’m using Windows Vista and cannot upgrade to the latest version of Chrome to test. Here are the browser versions I tested with:

    • Chrome: Version 49.0.2623.112 m
    • Firefox: 52.9.0 (32-Bit)
    • Opera: 36.0.2130.80

There is CLEARLY a HUGE issue with Yoast and the WordPress editor. It is a mess, try reverting back to an older version of the plugin. The newer plugins are total shit to WP.

@lynwildwood @caldiatech This issue was reported here and should have been resolved as of the 8.1 release of the plugin. Can you please confirm whether updating to 8.1 resolves this issue for you?

@devnihil It has not. Status is the same as before. Works fine in Firefox but not Chrome.

Could you update to v8.1 of the Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin and see if this helps resolve the issue? If it’s an issue with the browser not being updated, it’s something we cannot provide further support on. We always recommend to update to the latest versions of WP, plugins, and browsers to make sure that everything is supported compatibility-wise.

@lynwildwood Unfortunately, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.

This problem occurred on a few of my websites that are using different themes and different plugins. My workaround has been to use the previous version of the Yoast SEO plugin. I imagine tha’s what others are doing, too, so we don’t get too far behind on our seo stuff. :/

    Hi @beniellis,

Can you try check for conflicts?

It would be helpful for us to determine which other plugin is causing the conflict. In addition, can you confirm that you are using the latest versions of WordPress (4.9.8) and Yoast SEO (8.2)?

We are looking forward to hearing from you.
