I’m trying to install wordpress using MAMP. I’ve followed all the instructions–created a database named ‘wordpress’, renamed and edited the wp-config file, set the correct root directory in MAMP…but when I try to launch wordpress via https://localhost:8888/wordpress I get a blank browser screen; no error message; nothing. If I use https://localhost:8888/ I can see the wordpress directory, but again, no response if I attempt to open it. Frustration level is high! Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

  • Check the .htaccess file.

Here was the problem: my text editor was set to automatically use “smart” (curly) quotation marks, which showed up when I edited the wp-congig file. Once I turned that off, all was well.
