Black & White Image Hover

I’m trying to figure out how to make thumbnail images black & white and then when you hover over them they are in color. I’ve tried a view different options and codes and nothing seems to work properly. I’m kind of a beginner so I was trying to find a plugin or an easy way to solve this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
