I generate this page with :

    [powerpress_playlist slug=”1sthour” limit=1000 style=”dark”]

and it creates this whole black page in the beginning, before the playlist begins : is there a way to remove this black page ?

What happens if you remove this:
    style=”dark”

from the shortcode? Is the empty space still there?

Unfortunately yes – but now, it is all white ??

While PowerPress does use the Playlist Player, the Playlist Player itself is a feature of core WordPress. As such, these types of modifications are done either thru core WordPress files or thru your WordPress theme. You should start by contacting the developer of your theme and see if they have any idea on how to make it display the you want.

I just created this playlist inside WordPress itself : it is public so you can see it :

it does not display this hugh empty page : so I do not understand how my theme can be responsible for this issue ?

What happens if you set the episode limit to a lower number, like 5?

    Hello,

I just tried https://www.theothersideofmidnight.com/test-playlist/ and the player looks correct, 3 episodes and it fills the space correctly.

Is the issue only when you set the CSS to dark?

    Thanks,
    Angelo

Sorry I was not clear :
    https://www.theothersideofmidnight.com/test-playlist/

is a genuine WordPress playlist, built with the media library : it has NOT been built with Powerpress : here is the code of the page from within WordPress editor :

    <p>[playlist ids="14875,13301,10126,6315"]</p>

as you said that Powerpress was based on WordPress playlists, and that my theme could be responsible, I wanted to see what genuine WordPress playlists would look like.

So with a genuine WordPress playlist, my theme does not break anything. So how can it break Powerpress playlist ?

Btw, I don’t know your test platform. I am on Ubuntu Linux, on a desktop, with a big screen. I just tested on my Android smartphone, standing vertically, there the spacing is okay; but if I rotate it horizontally, then the spacing is very big again.

    Hello @rgrasso,

I am just following up, it looks like you got the playlist to appear again. Everything is good now?

    Thanks,
    Angelo

    Hello Angelo,

Thank you for getting back to me.
Short answer : no. On a large PC screen, we still have this large black empty space.

But being accurate : I guess you are not guilty : I found some mp3 in our media library, so I just built a native WordPress playlist with these : and I get the same, identical large empty space !!!

I will let this public for some days, so you can have a look at it if you want :
    https://www.theothersideofmidnight.com/test-wordpress-playlist/

So I guess that you are just using WordPress code or api, which I perfectly understand.

So I may have to rather dig inside WordPress I guess ? But this might just be all about having an actual video hosting code (and keeping the space for the video), degraded to just host audio …
So we might close this support ticket ?

    Hello @rgrasso2,

Yes the playlist is actually the built-in playlist of WordPress. If you see weird behavior it may be the theme causing it. Did you try temporarily switching themes to one of the stock themes, like twentyninteen?

No need to stop replying to the thread, if you find a solution and leave it here it will help the next user.

    Thanks,
    Angelo

    Thank you Angelo ??
I am helping this small website on my free time, I am new to websites management and WordPress, but I am a professional infrastructure sysadmin. So I am learning quickly, but switching themes ? this scares me : don’t I risk breaking anything ? There is a lot of customization, custom menus, custom CSS … I am the only tech guy in this small team, they all rely on me ??

Sorry, I know what I am going to do : I have a test WordPress installation on my laptop, with our current theme : but this is where I experiment – I am going to run my experiment there, then I will be back

You nailed it ! It is our old unmaintained theme :,-(

I tried with 2020, and 2019 : the big empty box is not there :,-(

So we will have to deal with this, one way or another >:->

Thank you for your good insight !
