Bizarre issue with password briefly appearing, then disappearing

    I have never experienced this before.

    I am running WordPress on Windows Vista, FF 3.5.3. I have also searched the FF forums ad nauseam, with no answers. I wonder if someone might recognize my problem, or maybe duplicate it.

    1. WordPress is the *only* site on which I have this issue, btw. All my browser/security/cookie settings are correct, having been checked and rechecked.

    2. I have my username and password set to be saved. I checked the box saying “Remember me.” This works on ALL OTHER SITES except my WordPress dashboard.

    3. When I return to https://www.mysite.org/wp-login.php, my username is there, but my password isn’t. Or is it? I see the password “dots” flash for a brief second in the password box, then disappear. It’s bizarre. Yet, I still have to type in my password in order to enter the dashboard. Again, this is ONLY in WordPress, not any other site.

    I have tried the FF bookmarklet for overriding the “autocomplete=off” function, but that function is not “on” in WordPress, so that was pointless. I have tried a suggestion to edit my login.js file in FF, to no avail.

    I’m running out of ideas, and hoping that there is a silly, simple fix. Can anyone help?

  • I’ve got FF 3.5.3 on Vista and I don’t have this problem. Do you have this problem with all plugins turned off? I’m pretty sure that mysite.org isn’t yours, so how about a useful URL?

    Useful URL is finkweb.org. Didn’t know that was required information, sorry.

    I disabled all plugins, cleared history, cookies and cache, and cleared out my cookies-sqlite file. Closed browser and restarted. Same result. I run the following plugins:

    Akismet
    Broken Link Checker
    Image Caption
    SSG WordPress Google Audio Player
    Theme Test Drive
    Video Embedder
    WordPress Database Backup
    Wordpress Thread Comment

    I’ve never had problems with any of these until using WP on Vista with FF 3.5x (I’ve only had this new machine for 5 days).

    Well, I solved the problem (at least temporarily) by installing the “Auto Login” Greasemonkey script. It still doesn’t explain why WP is the *only* site that doesn’t work with my settings, but that’s OK. At least I know Firefox is saving my password.

    Still bizarre, but the script is definitely a workaround if you’re ready to pull out your hair.

    I wish I could help, but I can’t duplicate this so I’ve got very little to work with.
