Bing Maps – End of Life – migrate to Azure maps mandatory

    Hi, I’m hoping this plugin is still in development. Been a happy user for quite a few years now.

    Microsoft has announced that Bing Maps is coming to an end. And Azure Maps is the way to go.
    As the plugin uses Bing Maps, it means that the plugin will be useless once Bing Maps is phased out in June 2025.

    Will this plugin be updated? Maybe feature the option to use Google Maps or other map sources?
    I hope so, or if not, whom can point me to an alternative?

    Following this. I wanted to install this plugin but found that as they are transitioning to Azure maps, they are no longer issuing any new Bing maps API keys.

    Dear All Users,

    Just before the New Year I finished migrating from Bing Maps to Azure Maps. It was a lot of work. 2 months of work after hours of my typical job.

    Please check the Changelog to see detail.

    Important!

    You will need a new API Key from the azure account. I added short description in the installation section but you can find more information here:

    Just managed to get the Azure Maps key.
    All works as expected on my end. Getting the key & account was quite easy.
    Hope my usage stays within the free tier. ??

    Make that another happy user. It works! THANK YOU! I have a little bit of work to do on customizing things, but I was able to get the Azure maps key and set this up, finally! ??
