    Hi,
My website Owen Jacobs is showing this error where the Google Map should be on the right sidebar using your plugin (not front page, all other pages):

The site can’t load Google Maps correctly.
    Do you own this website?
    g.co/staticmaperror/billing

Am I supposed to set up billing to show a Google Map using your plugin?

I have set up and applied the Google Maps API key as described in your instructions:
    https://www.gmapswidget.com/documentation/generate-google-maps-api-key/

The error is showing in Firefox and on my Samsung phone but not in Chrome at the moment.

The weird thing is that I use your plugin on other websites and there are no errors showing.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi Sharon,
Sorry to hear you’re having problems.

When was the last time you changed anything API related in Google’s console?

Hi – Thanks for your reply. I changed it today following your instructions to allow unsigned usage. Before I did this, the plugin showed the other error – signature.

In the Google console Overview, I see this message:
We have made changes to billing. Instead of an upfront charge, we will charge you based on your usage.

Am I supposed to set up billing to use your plugin?

    Hi, you’re welcome ??

Wanted to ask you to wait a bit as cache is often an issue but it’s now been 7 hours so 99% it’s not it ?? I’m getting a billing error constantly, from multiple browsers and locations.

Please note that some of our customers managed to go forward without setting u billing, but some, unfortunately, not ?? So billing might be the only way forward.

But, let’s give it another go. Go into the console. Double check that “Allow unsigned usage” is enabled. Create another API key. Restrict it only to your domain. That’s “HTTP referrers” under “Application restrictions” and set it to “https://owenjacobs.com/*”. Save everything. Change key in GMW. Wait a bit ?? and let me know if it helps.

Thanks for getting back to me – I tried as you suggested setting up a new API key and restricting it to the ownejacobs domain. It worked for a few minutes then reverted back to the billing error. I told the owenjacobs business owner we had to give Google credit card info and that did not fly. I tried giving Google my own card but it wouldn’t take it thinking it was a pre-paid card. So I had to replace the map with an image. Oh, well. Your plugin still works on a few other sites I manage though ?

Yes, people are reluctant to give their CC to Google even if they won’t be charged a dime, and they probably won’t be ??

We’re yet to figure out why some sites work some not. I truly don’t have an answer. This is costing us a lot of time as people blame GMW for the whole mess. Thankfully you understand what’s going on ??

Bottom line – seems like Google is not backing down on this one. It’s either CC or no map ??

Yes, I think Google is going to get a lot of resistance to website admins having to hand over credit card info. That will not be popular :-). And they need to explain to you why sometimes this is required and sometimes not (yet).

We’re looking into alternative map providers, but realistically, nothing comes even close to Google maps ??
