    Hi.
I’m designing an online store in 2 languages, and have used wpml to create the bilingual site.
Everything is working fine apart from one important feature.
A number of products are created via a plugin (printful) which has automated features such as shipping cost calculation. This works fine until i translate the product – the basic variations are still there (size, colour etc) but the automated side is lost.
I’ve tried translating via wpml and also with the basic wordpress multilingual. I’ve also tried duplicating a product and then assigning it to the second language and also leaving it in the default language.

So basically this problem of losing the automated features is caused by duplicating the product. I think it must be losing product data. These are variable products but i don’t see any details in the product data (sku etc) that can be copied over.

I’m trying workarounds but nothing is ideal. If i create the product twice – once in each language, then the automated features are there. But doing this means they are independent products rather than translations of each product, and if a user switches languages during the shopping process the cart is affected as some products could be in the default language system and others in the second language. Effectively they don’t exist in one language or the other so don’t show up in the cart.

I know it’s not likely that users will change language half way through but it is a possibility that i’d rather avoid.

Does anybody know of a way to duplicate a product retaining all of the extra features, or a better idea for a workaround than I have come up with?

Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello @mundomalo,

For what you are reporting sounds like something related with WPML, they should be able to help you fix this issue. Because at least on WooCommerce side we don’t manage things like that with multiple languages, so seems like something that WPML is doing.

If you like an alternative for WPML, on the WooCommerce.com marketplace we recommend MultilingualPress.

    I hope it helps.

    Thanks for the reply Claudio.
It’s not related to WPML. I’ve tried duplicating a product and living it in the same language, same categories, and it still loses it’s automated features.

I think this is an issue with the printful plugin but support from their developers it close to non-existent.

I see, it makes sense, WooCommerce also includes filters that allows 3rd party extensions to include and exclude data while duplicating products, that’s why I said that could be WPML, but the same applies for Printful.

Ah ok. I was hoping there’d be some plugin that could make a ‘true’ complete duplicate or something.

    Thanks for your help anyway.
