Bilingual Site Help Needed
-
I am currently in the process of attempting to make my site bilingual. I’ve downloaded the qtranslate plugin, which is great, but I still have a laundry list of questions that I’m hoping someone can help me with. I’m not sure if this plugin will work for my needs, but perhaps someone will have some insight into getting this sort of functionality. And if not, perhaps there is a better plugin that I can use…? Do I need to build a multisite and use Language Switcher?
This is my website:
https://www.brycerafflesound.com/1. I’ve started building in French-Language support, and added the widget to my sidebar with a nice drop-down menu. Looks great.
But on my home page, I don’t have a sidebar. So no widget. How can I get the French-language option to show up on the homepage. I attempted to add in a line of code to the header.php area as per a comment on this forum but couldn’t figure out where to put it without it completely distorting the look of my header area (It went above the top bar where all my social media links are, added another white section that wasn’t there before, and used some random font that looked terrible – I can provide a screenshot if that would be helpful).2. On my home page I also have a slider with images that contain text. The text is in English. My theme doesn’t support more than one slider. Any suggestions?
3. When you switch to French, the titles of my widgets still show up in English (including the widget for qTranslate) – so I’ve got “Language” “Like” and “Latest Work” rather than the French equivalent. Similarly, the text within these widgets remains in English – “See my latest videos on YouTube” for example.
4. Text in my footer also remains in English. “Copyright 2012 ? Bryce Raffle Sound…”
5. I also have custom links in my menu. If you hover over Resume, there are menu options for PDF and .DOCX formats for my resume – downloadable in English. What I’d like to do is provide a different link for the French versions of my Resume, so that when the Language is set to French, you get the French links and when the language is set to English, you get the English links.
Any help is appreciated. It’s very important because as a Canadian, we have two official languages, so it’s important to show off my bilingualism on my website. If half my website is still in English when I switch it to French, it just looks bad and I am alienating potential clients.
