• We have not made any noteworthy changes to our WP site in a while. It uses Canvas theme and WooCommerce (from Woo Themes)

For the last few months, the site has been crashing, and displaying “internal server error”. We are hosted at Netfirms, which used to be decent, but is now AWFUL. Their tech support has no clue what is going on. Each time the site crashed, they gave us a new and different reason. The last tech guy said he thought we needed an additional database because the one we had was overworked. I’m serious . It’s not that big a site, and we get decent traffic, but in no way is anything “overloaded”.

It crashed again twice today and this last time the tech person informed me that they went and did something with our htaccess file but not sure what. The site is back up – and I use that description very loosely – but it is a MESS.

Within the Dashboard, everything we do generates this and we are unable to add or update plugins at all::

Notice: has_cap was called with an argument that is deprecated since version 2.0! Usage of user levels by plugins and themes is deprecated. Use roles and capabilities instead. in /hermes/bosoraweb136/b1865/nf.teachsoap/public_html/otionsoap.com/DRAFT/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3495

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /hermes/bosoraweb136/b1865/nf.teachsoap/public_html/otionsoap.com/DRAFT/wp-includes/functions.php:3495) in /hermes/bosoraweb136/b1865/nf.teachsoap/public_html/otionsoap.com/DRAFT/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 1178

And the homepage displays this at top:
Notice: Undefined property: EasyColumns::$use_custom in /hermes/bosoraweb136/b1865/nf.teachsoap/public_html/otionsoap.com/DRAFT/wp-content/plugins/easy-columns/easy-columns.php on line 233

The header is displaying BOTH a logo and a site description which it never did before.

    It is a ROYAL MESS.
We are moving the site to another host (Bluehost) but I’m reluctant to “copy” the site in this condition to move it. I’m not even sure it’s in any condition to be moved. I am pulling my hair out with their idiotic tech support.

Any suggestions or soothing words would be appreciated.

Here’s what’s left of the site:

You’ll have to narrow down specifically what’s causing those errors, my money is on Easy Columns.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
