    Hello,

I just crashed the site trying to upgrade mycred to V1.3.
    Here’s what I did:
    Backed-up mycred v1.2.3 plugin (wp-content/plugins/mycred)
    Upgraded the extension to V1.3
    Site crashed (blank page)

Re-copied V1.2.3 files to my server
    site still crashed…

Renamed the mycred folder to “.mycred”
    Site still crashed.

I’m out of ideas to recover the site. Unable to log into admin panel or see any site pages.

Any ideas as to how to get be back online?

    thanks!

    Blaise

    Hi xberg.

Besides backing up your files did you not backup your database? A restore of your db and files backup should bring everything back to how it was in 1.2.3

Can you tell me what add-ons you had enabled?
If you enable WP_DEBUG in your wp-config.php file, what error messages are you getting?

Thanks Gabriel for the super fast response – much appreciated.

    Situation fixed:

    – moved mycred folder down to /wp-content as you advised elsewhere
–> This created a “database error” when I tried to see my website.

So I rebooted the dedicated server (!) and it worked. ie – I was able to get access to the site again, front and back end.
Moved the /mycred folder back into plugins and it seems OK.

Quite violent – was not expecting such a reaction from an innocent looking plugin ??

I would still like to upgrade but am at a loss as to how to proceed…

    thanks

In terms of add-ons I have almost every add on imaginable enabled ?? Yeah, I know that’s bad, but there’s so much I want the site to do!

It sounds like you have your own server so I would start by checking the PHP log to see what errors occurred during the update.

I also assume you have no customizations in other plugins or thought your themes functions.php file that could cause an error.

    Gabriel,

Yes – it’s a dedicated server. No PHP errors except:

[Mon Oct 07 16:17:31 2013] [warn] [client xxx ] mod_fcgid: stderr: PHP Notice: Undefined index: notify-edited, referer: https://xxx.fr/wp-admin/
[Mon Oct 07 16:17:31 2013] [warn] [client xxx] mod_fcgid: stderr: PHP Notice: Undefined index: bypasslogout, referer: https://xxx.fr/wp-admin/
[Mon Oct 07 16:17:31 2013] [warn] [client xxx] mod_fcgid: stderr: PHP Notice: Undefined index: setmods, referer: https://xxx.fr/wp-admin/

While I was rebooting the server I had a developer restore the options table of WP.

and yes, I have highly customised themes and plugins ??

    (@designbymerovingi)

But these customizations are they myCRED related?

Also have you tried enabling WP_DEBUG so you can see your error messages?

@xberg Please provide more feedback. More detail will give opportunity for plugin developer to fix any potential issues for other users.

So, have you added any custom hooks to myCRED? What is WP_DEBUG telling you? Activate it through your config file and have a look through errors and post them here. And maybe post a complete list of activated plugins, it can be useful.

    Lara,

I have not activated WP_Debug. There’s a development team working on the site that I pay by the hour and WP_Debug apparently could create problems with plugins and I can’t afford to spend more time.

Yes – the team has implemented plenty of custom hooks for mycred. Over a dozen hooks probably. Why this would crash the admin panel and all the site however is beyond me.

and my the way, we tried the upgrade twice, with always the same disastrous and instant result: absolutely no access to either front or back end.

    Hey xberg.

Could you ask your development team if hey are using the myCRED_Core in their custom hooks? It is a class that was deleted in 1.3 and if you call this function or somehow rely on this, I could see how this would crash your site.

    Plugin Author myCred

    (@designbymerovingi)

Also, if you remove these customizations temporarily, and then update to 1.3 you could right of the bat determine if the issue is in the customizations or in myCRED.

    Thread Starter xberg

    (@xberg)

    Thanks Gabriel,

I’ll ask them. They have been working on these customisations (14) for about a week now so they might not be too keen on changing anything but I will ask.

    (@designbymerovingi)

I understand. But if it turns out that this is the reason for your crash then I can help you resolve it without making any changes to your customizations.
