• I work on a site that has both English and Japanese text. It all looks great on OS X, but the default Japanese font on Windows looks terrible. (It isn’t anti-aliased at all.)

Microsoft DOES have a decent Japanese font (Meiryo) installed on newer versions of Windows, but it isn’t enabled by default.

Is it possible to enable better Japanese text for all Windows visitors to our site?

So far, the unicode-range descriptor of the CSS element @font-face seems like a promising solution, but if I understand correctly, @font-face is used to fonts that you download, and I don’t think that I can legally provide a good Japanese font for our users.
