Is there a way to control the titles for autoposts? I’m pulling the FB feed down to the website to create posts (which later automatically end up in a Mailchimp newsletter via the website RSS feed so I need the autoposts, not the shortcode) and the post titles are the truncated first few words of the FB status update. Is there a way to generically set the titles to something like Update: July 26, 2014 instead of having it truncated like this – https://www.rancho3m.com/thank-you-to-the-amazing-team-consisting-of-the-louisville-knoxville-nashvil/ ? What are the parameters for grabbing that title – maybe we can just change how we’re writing the updates in Facebook. Also, thanks for a fantastic plugin. I’m using it for several nonprofits who aren’t really tech savvy – Facebook is about their limit – and it’s making life a lot easier. ??

    Interesting question Laura

Yes, FB makes a muck of all RSS feeds..so how about you give me the RSS feed URL that you are using and I’ll see if there is a way to provide an option for this.

ok..here’s the thing…I can make an option that if if a facebook feed, to replace the title with something like Update: and the date…but that would happen with every single one of your facebook post. I can’t write code, at least easily, to detect when a title goes on too long and then cuts off..so it’s either a title or date, but not both.

The Update: [date] could work but unless there’s a demand for that don’t do it just on my account. ??
How does the plugin decide where to truncate content to fit in the title field? I can get them to be more strategic in how they write up their FB status updates.

right now, there is no truncation of the title….the plugin takes whatever is the title and uses that. If the title is real long, it might be that WordPress is truncating the title (but I doubt that). You can see by the feed itself, that it’s FB that is truncating the title.

Facebook doesn’t have titles – it’s just the status update but when it’s imported, it copies the beginning of the status update into the title field.

well, here is what the RSS feed looks like

    https://www.screencast.com/t/NrRHiNb2

and it’s clear that FB constructs the title in the RSS feed. So, it’s not my plugin that puts the status update into the title field, it is FB that does that when they construct their RSS feed.

how about a solution that doesn’t break on character, but breaks on a word?..that would look less strange than the way FB does it

Yes, that would be a big improvement!

ok…would you be willing to try this out before I add this? It would mean updating the beta to a new version of the beta?

Sure, glad to. I really appreciate your even answering my question, much less helping.

well, I just put something together but I can’t say this helps so much as you will still get words like “the” at the end..which doesn’t look great, and it can’t be coded to eliminate such endings.

Can it be coded to stop after X number of words or at puncuation? Because I can get them to adjust their writing to conform with that, if that would work.

I’ll try stopping at a comma or a period.

ok..I have something that should work..are you willing to try it now?
