We’ve had a catalog feed running that feeds Meta our products so they’re available on Facebook and Instagram. We did not have checkout on Meta set up–all transactions were on our website.

Now of course Meta only allows products to be purchased on their platform. What’s the best way to sync those transactions with Woo Commerce? In other words, if a customer buys a product on Facebook we would want our WooCommerce store so somehow register the sale and adjust the inventory.

I looked at Facebook for WooCommerce but this plugin has less than a 3-star rating which seems like a big red flag. What are people out there using successfully?

    Thanks.

  • Don’t go by the ratings. Sometimes you get an angry elf or those who don’t understand it. It’s like someone who loves Mickey D’s but then writes and awful review on Nobu.

FB for Woo is the best method. Yes, when it first came out it wasn’t great. Now, it’s solid. Better options and makes your life easier. You still have to work hard on the social platform side, but I don’t know of a better app that can do what it cane do; Pixel, Conversion API connection, Product Sync Inventory. All of it automated.

Not to mention, what happens if you go with some loner app from Billy and he goes out of business? Then you’re up a creek.

Whereas this app is supported by WooCommerce. Know what I mean?

    Hi @megunticook

Besides what @serafinnyc said, The Facebook for WooCommerce plugin, despite its rating, is the official and most widely used solution for this purpose. It provides the necessary integration to sync your products on Meta’s platforms.

While the rating might be a concern, it’s important to note that many users have different expectations and experiences, and a lower rating doesn’t necessarily mean the plugin won’t work for your needs. However, if you’re still hesitant, there are other third-party plugins like Instagram for WooCommerce, GoDataFeed for WooCommerce, or PixelYourSite, which also offer similar functionalities.

I hope this provides some clarity. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for sharing your opinions. There’s a big notice up at FB for Woo that says it doesn’t support Meta checkout. I need something that syncs Meta transactions with Woo, so for example inventory gets reduced when something sells on Meta. Sounds like FB for Woo doesn’t do that. Am I wrong?

Hey @megunticook Great question, let me explain how it all works

The Facebook for WooCommerce plugin, which is now part of Meta’s suite of business tools, primarily focuses on integrating your WooCommerce store with Facebook and Instagram. This allows you to sync your product catalog, run advertising campaigns, and create shoppable posts directly on these platforms. That’s it. That’s all it was ever created to do. Oh forgot to say Pixel and Conversion API too.

As for supporting checkout directly on Meta platforms (like Facebook and Instagram), this functionality is generally offered through Meta’s native tools like Instagram Shopping and Facebook Shops. These tools can enable a checkout feature that lets customers purchase products without leaving the Facebook or Instagram app. Back in the day you had to wait for them to approve you. No idea what it is now.

Also, enabling checkout directly on these platforms may depend on your location, as the in-app checkout feature is not available in all regions. Additionally, specific setup steps on your Meta business account and compliance with Meta’s commerce policies are required.

If you want to enable direct checkout on Meta platforms visit Meta’s business resources for more info on that as this forum is primarily for WooCommerce core only.

    Hope that helps.

@serafinnyc thanks for sharing your thoughts. Still not entirely clear to me if the FB for Woo extension will sync FB/IG transactions with woo now. The notice the extension’s webpage says “Facebook for WooCommerce is currently not compatible with Checkout on Facebook & Instagram.”

It goes on to say “the plugin cannot be utilized by US merchants to create Facebook/Instagram Shops until further notice. Nevertheless, US merchants can continue utilizing the plugin for Facebook Ads to promote their product catalogs across Facebook platforms.”

So the question still stands, does the plugin sync transactions conducted through the Meta checkout with my WooCommerce store or not? I already have a catalog feed but that’s just Meta ingesting an XML file of our current catalog (and inventory) every day. If we’re going to allow Meta checkout, we need to know that data will flow in the other direction from Meta back to our Woo store (recording sales transactions, adjusting inventory, etc.).

    Thanks.

    Hi there @megunticook,

I understand your concern regarding the Facebook for WooCommerce extension.

The Facebook for WooCommerce plugin does not support syncing of transactions conducted through the Meta checkout with your WooCommerce store. Which means that transactions made will not be reflected in your WooCommerce store.

The plugin serves to promote your product catalogs across Facebook platforms via Facebook Ads. It does not support the flow of data back to your WooCommerce store from Meta.

I hope this information is helpful.

    Cheers!

Ya sorry @megunticook I thought I made it clear that the app has nothing to do with the FB and IG checkout. They do not sync sales and I don’t know of anything out there that can even do that.

@serafinnyc @ckadenge thanks for chiming in.

Seems odd that with all the Woo stores out there that have been publishing their product catalogs on Meta, nobody has come up with a way to sync. Meta checkout transactions with Woo. Especially now that Meta insists that all checkouts occur on their platform. What are all the merchants using Woo doing about this? Can’t believe they’re just manually adjusting inventory and recording transactions from Meta.

    Hello again @megunticook

It was Meta’s decision to pull that ability from all apps, not just Woo. Why? I don’t know. Security or Liability possibly.

    Hello Megunticook

    Thank you for your reply.

As Stef has already explained, this decision was made by Meta and Woo had to follow the standards.
