Best way to migrate data to a different install

  • We are trying to migrate all of the WPDR data and documents to a different install. We’ve tried using WP All Export/Import, selecting all fields, but getting 404 for all imported documents. Is there a step we are missing? A better recommended way? Thanks.

    @jpere.
    You refer to “WP All Export/Import”. The nearest plugin that I find to that is “Ail-in-One WP Migration. This will migrate all the database contemt as well as the media content. Possibly this is the plugin that you are using.

    You do not say whether you are storing your documents within your media library or not.

    If you are, then it msy be worth while finding out more from from the plugin supplier.

    If you are storing the documents in another directory, then you will need to copy the document directory into the uploads directory as a leaf, then doe the export and once imported to move the document directory back to its proper position (or change the location stored).

    This is because whatever plugin you are using to export the data will not know that the documents are held elsewhere in your file system. And therefore they will not be copied over.
