Best way to add SIMPLE events for a store website
-
Howdy, this is a “how-to” question.
I am building a small website for a Wine shop. Only a few pages (about, location, etc.) and they also create a few posts a month for party/dinner pairing ideas.
They also host events a few times a month and this is where I have questions. I’ve tried tagging posts under a category “events” to separate them from other posts. What I’d like to have is something on the homepage that automatically shows the next single upcoming event (they would probably always have at least 3 or 4 upcoming events, but I want just the next upcoming one to display). And when that event’s date has past it shows the next upcoming one.
Ideally, it would show the name of the event, a once sentence description (separate from the full event description which people would see on clicking a “more” link), the date/time of the event, and a link to the full description. There is no need for registering online or anything, it’s just to let people know when the next event is.
A tiny visual calendar would be nice but not necessary. More importantly, a simple link to view all upcoming events would suffice (hopefully it wouldn’t show past events…).
Is this built-in? Or do I need a plug-in? I searched plug-ins and for the most part they seem like overkill so I thought I’d ask. Any suggestions?
