Best way to add Event Posts to the blog?

I notice that the default settings make Event Posts appear in their own archive called ‘events’. But these posts do not appear in my blog.
I would like my Event Posts to:
1. Appear on the blog page along with all other posts.
2. Show a list of the 5 most recent Event Posts (with the event post’s featured image thumbnail, hyperlinked title, and excerpt) on one of my pages.What is the recommended way to accomplish this?
