• Hi,

I wondered what some of the best themes to start with were?
I am currently using simpleX 1.3 theme which is excellent

I want to customize a theme, but I also want to upgrade / update it when updates are available.

For example, if I customzed WordPress Default, and later wanted to upgrade it to a new version, wouldn’t that overwrite all my changes? Am I stuck on a version of a theme if I tamper with it?

    Thanks

  • if you changed the default you can still update your wp. But don’t forget to NOT overwrite the new version default over your changed one.

You should rename the map what include your change default so you can update your wp without worries.

a very good theme to make your own theme is: the naked wordpress (you need some experience in CSS to create a nice looking one)

For WordPress, look for Atahualpa and Thematic themes (there’s some others). And for CSS, there’s the BluePrint framework. They are very good to no start from zero while developing themes.

Regarding updates, once you click on “Update WordPress” in your control panel, everything into wp-content will be kept. And if you want to manually update (download and decompress WordPress yourself), the wp-content folder doesn’t need to be replaced.

    So… don’t worry and keep working. =D

Hi – I’ve recently been introduced to woo themes, although I haven’t used it myself, a friend highly reccommended their themes and said they were really user-friendly – here is their link: woo themes
