Best practices for adding additional material components

I assume (but may be wrong) that the CSS/javascript included in this wordpress plugin only covers the material components that are needed for the theme and the “Material Blocks”.

That is a correct assumption.

You may already know this but if not, material.io is a good reference to add any new component – https://material.io/develop/web/components/input-controls/select-menus

To add any new components you will need to:

• Output material friendly HTML markup which contains mdc classes via theme or custom block.
• Load material CSS for component from npm package. Example: https://github.com/material-components/material-design-for-wordpress/blob/113fb9f444de42b427cc423d6b2d330fa87a949b/plugin/assets/css/src/material-components.css#L21-L34
• Initiate frontend JavaScript if component requires it. Example: https://github.com/material-components/material-design-for-wordpress/blob/113fb9f444de42b427cc423d6b2d330fa87a949b/plugin/assets/src/common/mdc-components-init.js#L27-L33

That should do it.

You can also create new feature request on GitHub. We will check internally and triage.
