• As I’m using iThemes Security to rename my wp-content folder, it occurred to me to use the .htaccess file to return a 403 for any external attempts to access it – especially as I see a lot of them in the 404 log.

    For me the main benefit is that it makes the 404 log more useful – showing me things that possibly should be there, or are more serious threats (like if someone figured out what I had renamed my wp-content folder).

    Is there any other, more security-related, practical benefit to this – or any downside?
