    Hey Team,
Had a question regarding best practices when it came to split testing ad sizes with Advanced Ads.

If I wanted to test which ad sizes worked best in certain placements, is it recommended I make separate placements for Desktop and Mobile Devices or is it fine to put mobile and desktop ads all in the same group and placement? I worry that could create too many variations and unfairly weigh the success of the mobile ads vs desktop ads due to higher mobile traffic.

Also, if separating them out by device and placement, is it recommended to just throw the two widgets or shortcodes next to one another in the editor and trust that the display filters will catch the traffic or should be using separate containing elements and hiding the visibility of those elements by device as well?

    Hi taylorthain,

    Thanks for reaching out.

I suggest testing different variants of ads using a group with equal ad weights and analyze the CTR after a given time. You can also sort your ads, using conditions for Mobile and Desktop. This ensures you only compare the individual formats with each other.

You can read more about the topic of A/B testing ads in our manual.

If you are using Advanced Ads features from our paid add-ons, please reach out directly to our customer support, since discussions about paid features are not allowed on wp.org. If you are using a third-party tracking mechanism or planning to test AdSense ads and use their internal statistics, please let me know here.

    Best regards,
    Henning
