Best plugin to generate thumbnails?

  • What is the best thumbnail plugin, to simply generate good quality thumbnails that link to the full size images? I have searched but I fell like I’m drowning in all the image plugins.

    Also traditionally when a linked thumbnail image is clicked, the visitor is taken to a new page with only the large version of the image displayed. The background is typically white and boring and there is no caption, title, or information about the image.
    Here is an example, how can I achieve this?
