Best Plug-In/Hack for two or more galleries on different pages (not posts)

I’m using WordPress as a poor man’s CMS so I have everything set up as a page, not a post, and 2 different pages are gallery-type pages – 1 of paintings and 1 of photos. The default gallery functionality is just fine by me, but I need two of them and ideally fairly simple to use.

I installed the nextgen plug-in but unfortunately my host doesn’t seem to have the php library to generate the thumbnails installed so that’s out and it seemed a bit overkill anyway. Is there a simple plug-in or a simple hack that will help me achieve my goal? My php skills are beginnerish.
