Best News Reader/BlogThis?

  • What is the best news reader for quick posting into WordPress? I have checked out programs like FeedDemon and NewsCrawler.
    NewsCrawler’s “blog this” over to wordpress has problems and I know the issue is being worked on jointly from the experts here (dougal) and the newscrawler guys.
    Re FeedDemon, there is a great hack that Laughing Lizard made for this feature but it doesn’t wortk with the new WordPress because the files have changed. I have tried changing the file names in LL’s hack but could not get it working.

  • I tried Zempt (for Windows) and have a lot of trouble withe WP 1.0 : you can post il you did’nt use “Excerpt” aera ; you can’t edit publishe posts… For Mac OS X I tried Kung-log some time ago on 0.72, quite the same thing if I remember….

    Hello all! I am new here and I think it’s nice to discuss on the Support Forum. My English is poor, excuse me.
    For about four months I combined my WordPress weblog system with Steve Minutillo’s server side rss reader FeedOnFeeds, I translated them into Chinese and hacked them both, my hacks includes a function to put a ‘blog it’ hyperlink below each item displayed in FoF. If you click that link, it will post the id in tghe database of the rss item to the post.php (or edit.php in previous versions of WordPress), and the post.php will read all of the contents of this rss item from the database. If you save and publish a new blog entry then, you will get the same result as you are using the “blog this” function as in FeedDemon or NewsCrawler.
    I think it’s much more convient to do all the stuff server side to me. That’s why I did so. ??

    Thanks aris and zonble – I’ll stay away from Zempt and I checked out FeedOnFeeds which looks good but a bit difficult for me. I need one of those EZ use interfaces for dummies like FeedDemon or NewsCrawler.

    aris: I don’t know why you have those problems with Zempt. That’s what I use for testing the MovableType API, and excerpts and post editing both work. In fact, just about everything works (except for things not currently supported by WordPress, such as keywords and per-post text filters).
