• Hello
I was wondering what the best WordPress media settings and WooCommerce product image settings are for the Bento theme, in particular for Portfolio images and Shop images. I currently have my Portfolio images sized to 1200x1200px as per the Bento demo portfolio images and my shop images sized to 600x600px also as per the Bento demo shop images. My WordPress dashboard media settings for image sizes are set to 150x150px for thumbnails, 300x300px for medium images and 1200x1200px for large images. My WooCommerce product display image settings are set to catalogue images 300x300px, single product images 600x600px and product thumbnails to 150x150px but my shop images appear blurry on the shop page. I’ve tried uploading larger shop images (800x800px) and regenerating my thumbnails but this doesn’t seem to work. Any suggestions regarding the best image sizes for Portfolio images and Shop Product images and the best media settings for image sizes in WordPress and WooCommerce would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much!

    Hey @lormei,

could you please provide the URL of the page in question (if available online)? Seeing the actual page will enable me to give a more precise recommendation; it might be that the source of the issue is not image dimensions but something else entirely.

    Sincerely,

    Hey Lorraine,

please check if the images are still blurry after performing the updated mentioned in this ticket. If they still are, please email me a direct link to a page where they still aren’t sharp. Thanks for your patience!

Thanks very much, Andrii. I did a bit of experimenting yesterday and I seemed to have fixed the problem by setting the WooCommerce product display image setting dimensions to be twice those of my WordPress media image settings. In any case, can you please tell me what you think the ideal image sizes are for the WordPress media settings and the WooCommerce product display image settings? Thanks very much.

    Hey Lorraine,

since the theme adjusts to the width of the viewing device, following the best practices for modern responsive design, there’s no single image size that could be ideal for any screen – the variety is just too wide, these days, from the smallest smartphones to huge 4K displays. As a rule of thumb, the large the image, the better its quality will be to the viewer, but any webmaster should balance two opposing considerations: larger image size (and higher image quality, as a result) versus lower loading speed. I’m usually optimizing my own websites for a maximum of 1980px wide screens at the moment, since larger ones are more rare and usually used at a distance (like TVs). As for the second part of the optimization problem, I recommend keeping any single page load speed below 2 seconds (1 second, ideally) for the best user experience.

    Sincerely,
    Andrii / Satori Studio
