• Would appreciate if someone could please recommend a good free responsive wordpress theme. I have even tried basing it on the number of downloads of a theme to get an idea of how good that wp theme is but the list just seems to be getting bigger and bigger.

The theme needs to be responsive and work on any advice and be able to load quickly. I would appreciate advice on how easy it is to use (I have basic wordpress skills, but are learning ‘on the job’) it will be a blog style website, videos, content etc would like something where you have good control over widgets, side bars, you are able to change things easily such as the layout, headers , I would like to put banners, advertise, etc basically a good eye catching design that can be changed to the look and feel I would like (ie background, colours, pictures etc.)

Would also appreciate if someone would recommend a good paid responsive theme version as well

I am concerned about what would happen to content should I wish/ or have to change the theme as I have seen comments on how people have had problems once they have changed their themes and are trying my best to avoid this situation from the outset.

Many thanks in advance for your help and advice.

    Thank you

  • Hi AdviceThanku,
My advice is based on the fact that says . Easy, Simple, Not too Fancy, easy code changes, No Shortcodes.
    Conclusion is
    Responsive Theme from CiberChimp.
Im using it for many purposes, because of the flexibility and simplicity.
I can be very helpful support for you, because of the knowledge of that theme.
It can handle a lot of modification concerning frames.
Let me know, if you make a decision and I will help you to succeed. ??
Do not be disappointed by NOT Fancy LOOK.
    Cheers

Thank you tahoerock for your helpful and prompt response. Very much appreciated.

I have been looking into this theme today, I am happy with this theme however, I am not keen on the fact that I would have to use css code whenever you want to change simple things such as the header menu for example etc or even a background colour and that my understanding is now I would need to make a ‘child theme’ (something I have never come across before) due to the coding I would have to be changing.

Would I need to keep changing the coding everytime I want to for example add a side bar on the left or a search bar, or want my latest blog posts with their titles to show, or have various different pictures scroll right across the top of the website instead of just on one side of it, have widgets and banners etc appearing on the side of the website and so on.

I am really looking for the best free user friendly, responsive wp theme, eye catching to the visitor but with with minimal coding.

I appreciate you having responded earlier but would be grateful for any feedback relating to the above points.

    Many thanks.

    Hi AdviceThanku,
To change header menu, or any element on any theme
This is hard to say generally.
    1) you do not need to use css
    2) you need to use css.
It depends what you want to do with the element.
You will find the Theme where you can tweak almost everything by WYSIWYG, but you can be trapped to stay very dependable on the theme and that theme can have some big disadvantages in the future. Like Short-codes, it is easy to work with, but impossible to do custom tweaks or (when you change your mind in the future) to go with some other theme.
There is no perfect answer. Very Subjective task.
    Ask yourself
Is it Personal site or business site?
    Who the audience will be
What I want to say to the audience (main message to convert)
Yo do not do website for yourself, but for audience and you have to think like this when you do the process of building website.
    It is crucial:
To have a Content up front, then do the Mockup, framework, layout, design and so on. Imagine you have the best Theme on the Earth and you will find out you do not have enough to say and fill up all the spaces offered by the theme. Theme will never look like presented by author.
    Cheers
