Bento theme disables editor

Setup: All recently downloaded and installed packages,ie up to date. MAMP on Macbook Pro exceeding requirements, WP running theme Donovan (lite/free) on LocalHost works well; page and post editor just fine; all else seems fine. No active plugins.

Install Bento in usual fashion (from WP dashboard>themes…),activate. Accept suggested plugins and install/activate. Page and post editor largely disabled, no editing controls, text invisible unless I drag thru it-has visible HTML things, cannot change view, select any tabs etc. can only exit without publishing–actually cannot make changes to require re-publishing.

From themes can revert to theme Donovan with no apparent damage to content. Would like to use Bento theme as I have the upgrade plugin. Any suggestions or a fix would be appreciated—-thanks, John
