• I received a letter addressed to my office saying that a theme that I used to use a few months ago, “Summer Nights”, by “anonymous”, has a picture in it that is licensed to Getty images. It’s a dark gray theme with a picture of a lit up house in a night setting at the top. I can’t find the theme out there anymore, although I still have it saved. The theme was represented as being totally free and public when I used it. What’s up with this? Obviously the theme designer heisted the image… how do I prove that to Getty? I can’t even find the theme out there anymore.

    Thanks for all the help!!

  • In style.css you should see the themes author or website url and licence, there might also be a GPL license file in the folder.

I am sure that a cease and desist from Getty is appropriate in this situation.

    David,

    Thank you so much!!

Wow, I just spent hours searching for the site I found that theme on. I actually found it but it was no longer there. I used the wayback machine to find when the theme was there and sent that to Getty along with a who-is of the website owner.

It did come with the below license:
    Creative Commons Legal Code

    *Attribution 2.5*

I switched to the free version of Pagelines a few months ago, so why they are bothering me now is beyond me. At least I know I shouldn’t be bothered again.

    Thanks again and best wishes,

    Craig
