Hello. First, thank you very much for the plugin. This seems like it will be a relatively no-hassle way to ensure my site looks great on retina displays.

Unfortunately, I am quite a noob when it comes to resolution and displays. To test how my images would load on retina displays, I followed your tutorial and enabled debug mode in the plugin settings. I then viewed the log file and it indicated:

2015-01-06 14:58:03: - The retina file '/home/artslamm/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/[email protected]' cannot be found.

How do I resolve this issue? If you could walk me through the resolution for this first hurdle, I think I can manage to resolve any future issues. I do indeed have an image, “musicmag1,” stored in WordPress with a size of 1078×516. My page is trying to display it at a size 702×336. When I view this file in the WP Retina 2x media page, 5 yellow exclamation points appear, for the following sizes:

    large <2048×980
    shop_catalog <600×600
    shop_single <1200×1032
    main-full <2156×1032
    main-slider <1404×672

The other sizes have green ticks.

What exactly must I do to resolve the above log file error? Do I have to upload a larger version (what size?) of the same image, then insert that into my page instead of the current size? If I do this, then perhaps the image will display properly on retina displays, but it will now be too big for non-retina displays–correct? Or do I upload a larger version manually by drag-and-drop on the grid on the WP Retina 2x media page?

Please correct any misunderstandings I have. Thanks in advance.

You should upload an original file that is larger than all the resolution mentioned next to the exclamation point. Seems to be 2156×1032. Try re-uploading one, see if it is better.

Thank you for your reply and patience. I see your directions, but I’m not sure how I should carry out them out.

Should I delete the current 1078×516 image and replace it with an image of 2156×1035? If so, the new image will now be too large for its place on the page and will break the layout.

Or should I drag and drop a higher size version of the same image, onto the grid in the WP Retina 2x media page? I tried this (for a different image–not the image from my original post). After I did so, 2 of the exclamation points turned to green ticks and all 3 red X’s turned to exclamation points. But curiously, one exclamation point (originally <1200×632) changed to an exclamation point with <1200×1200. Why this increase after I uploaded a file with dimensions larger than what was requested?

EDIT: It appears that dragging and dropping onto the grid is identical to replacing the original image. In this case, I’m still confused on how to resolve my issue. When I insert a larger image, my layouts break.

Also, how can I delete all of the @2x images for just a specific image (not all images)?

    Thanks again for your help.

Did you try the new version? Might be easier and better. For now, we cannot delete the @2x images for a specific image. I could add this feature easily but it’s one more button to add on the dashboard and most people might find it useless :/ Let’s see if I get more requests about the same thing.
