• Evening. I’ve just created my first site, however I’m experiencing difficulty in installed the wordpress software. I had a problem when installing and deleted the current installation, now when I try to reinstall I get this message:

“The installation can not be completed:

    – You chose to install in the main directory of the domain offthewallfiction.co.uk, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain offthewallfiction.co.uk (path=”/home/mwhyszcw/public_html/”).You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
    wp-admin
    wp-content
    wp-includes”

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Ben

  • Remove the named folders from public_html using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides).

you will need to delete all wordpress related files and folders from public_html and re upload them from a fresh download and then just enter your domain name will take you to install program.

I looked at your url and you do not have all wp- files in public_html

I’m trying to delete them, but every time I come out of the file, then back in, they’re re-appear! Can’t seem to get rid of them. Am I doing something wrong? Or do they have to be moved?

Does your server configuration allow you to delete non-empty directories? Some don’t. Try to delete all of the files in those directories first, and then delete the directory.

I’ve managed to delete other files – but those b*stards won’t go! Frustrating.
