been hacked :(

  • hey im using wordpress 2.0.4 and last night i noticed that my website had got a ton of pop ups and its not from my host, the host said that someones used a script to cause pop ups somewhere in the files. i have no idea what to do, i tried googling the problem and only found something about that in 2.0.3.
    does anyone know how to fix this problem and get rid of this virus, pop up, hack thing?

  • What do you mean by “popups”? Are you talking about comments? Comment spam is common.
    Plugins:
    Akismet
    Bad Behavior
    Google them – use them.

    You should upgrade to version WP 2.0.5 – 2.0.4 has documented security flaws which 2.0.5 fixes.

    no,, like actual pop ups, as soon as you visit the index.php about 10 pop ups come up and its not from the host at allll. they said theres a script somewhere in your wordpress causing it. it only just happened, i hadnt changed or added anything then it happened a few hours ago, the host people were positive that someones launched a vulnerable script on my site making it cause these problems with wordpress and im not sure what to do or what file i might havew to look for to delete,, cause all they said was re start your website again ??

    OK – download a fresh copy of WP. Compare the files you unzip to the ones on your site. If there is a file that shouldn’t be there – delete it. If not upload the new files overwriting the old ones. Then run /wp-admin/upgrade.php.
    Report results back. This should work if nothing was injected into database – which is doubtful.
