Bed images resolution “Display settings”. Medium and big option doesn’t work)

Hi
I am trying to add images to post and pages in different resolutions. I am using classic editor and wordpress 5.03 but this problems occurs for long time. I am choosing insert media and select image from library or from computer. The problem is with size option of image. The sizes in pixels are not correlated with names big, medium, thumbnail. Second problem is that “medium” option is always 768 px no matter what options I have in wordpress.

Why the medium size of image option doesn’t work? Images have always different resolution from option selected in option/media at dashboard usually 768 px. Using always custom size option is very time consuming ??
