it kinda does what it says, but the bloatware is more than the actual plugin. this plugin does the same as mediamatic (497kb) for example, but at the cost of 5.9MB worth of code. even if we do not take into account the constant communication with 3rd party servers, the tons of ads, i’d rather load 0.5MB of code for this, than 5.9MB.
not to mention that basic functionalities are separated into multiple plugins that you have to buy separately. while legal, it is a very scummy practice.

this plugin feels like a front for a MUCH larger data collection and advertisement network. stay away from it.

the reason i give it 1 star is because the bloatware itself introduces bugs that break the plugin. i fixed those bugs, but after a little searching on this website i found much more lightweight plugins that do the exact same thing.

    Hi mistersippi,

Thank you for your feedback and I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems with Real Media Library. I would like to respond to every point you mentioned in your feedback.

    1. Ads and data collection: We have never sent any data to a third party server without your consent, especially no data containing personal advertising information. Furthermore, we do not operate an advertising network. What is included in the Real Media Library are up-selling (“Buy Real Cookie Banner PRO”) and cross-selling ads (“Buy Plugin X from the same manufacturer”) to promote the paid version of our products. After your feedback and the feedback from two other users in the last few days, we have decided to drop all cross-selling ads in the next version of Real Media Library. I hope this will make the plugin more user-friendly from your point of view.

    2. “basic functionalities are separated into multiple plugins”: Can you explain to us what exactly you mean by this statement? We would like to improve ourselves if we knew that we could do better.

    3. Plugin size: Yes, Real Media Library is larger than the mentioned alternative Mediamatic. But this is not true, that this is caused by bloatware.
We use modern React development and 3-party library from the modern JavaScript ecosystem. This includes that we write our code type-safe in TypeScript. Therefore, code from dependencies as well as source maps for easy debugging are included in our plugin bundle, which makes the plugin a bigger. But as a website owner, you only download about 230 kB of scripts and styles during editing (only for signed-in users; see: https://imgur.com/mOcF036).

In comparison, Mediamatic is developed in an “old school” jQuery style. This works fine for a few hundred files in your media library, but if you have > 10.000 files in your media library, we can offer you much better performance.

I hope I could help to explain the problem with my explanations. I would be happy if you would reconsider your review ??

    Best regards,

    Jan
