bbPress topic reply notification

  • Hello,

    I wanted to know which option to use when wanting a notification sent to admin when a topic is replied to.

    I am using “New ‘Topic’ Published” for brand new topics which works OK in sending notification emails to admin.

    However the options under custom post type ‘Topic’ there is…

    ‘Topic’ New Comment
    ‘Topic’ Comment Reply

    but these seem appropriate for Comments and which do not seem appropriate for bbpress topics.

    There is also a custom post type ‘Reply’ with…

    New ‘Reply’ Published

    but this has no reference to forums.

    Without creating a test user and trying various options, can anyone advise which option is correct to use to create email notifications for bbpress topic replies?

    Hi Bharat,
    Thanks for your message.

    I think you’re pretty safe with ‘Reply’ as that’s the custom post type that bbPress uses for Forum topic replies.

    As the output of the notifications list is programmatic, i’m not sure what ‘Topic’ New Comment or ‘Topic’ Comment Reply would do but I can’t imagine they’d be useful.

    Jack,

    I used the “New ‘Reply’ Published” options and the notification email arrives, however, the [post_title] and [permalink] shortcodes are not parsed and hence the title and link to the topic or reply do not appear which makes it difficult to work out what is being replied to and finding the appropriate topic and reply on the front end of the forums.

    [post_content] works OK and displays the main text area content of the reply.

    How can [post_title] and [permalink] shortcodes be made to appear?

    Hi Bharat,
    Thanks for getting back to me.

    I’ve slated full support for bbPress and BuddyPress for a later date. For now, I can investigate but can’t ensure full compatibility at this time.
    If it’s an easy fix, I might be able to roll into the next update though.

    Hi Bharat,
    Keep an eye on the changelog when you see a new update for BNFW.
    I always list anything in there, no matter how small.
