• There never was, and there never will be any kind of anti-spam plugin made for BBpress. You’re better off switching to a non-WordPress-based forum software. There’s nothing that WordPress can do about spam unless you pay monthly for it. Sad how WordPress used to be a free, open-source kind of community and now all it is, is fake-free plugins.

edit: So it’s not abandonware, I’ve changed the title.
edit2: WP-Spamshield what people are looking for, not Akismet.

bbPress is not abandonware. I personally just committed a bug fix from a community member and contributor a few hours ago.

Moderating a community is hard work. Spam is everywhere. Akismet works very well (I see you disagree) and usually can be used for free with a WordPress.com API key.

Sorry that you’ve had a bad experience. Millions of other folks aren’t having these problems. Hard to say what went wrong for you.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Honestly, I’m just frustrated because bbPress only has Akismet for spam defense and it’s not really free. I’ve changed the title of this feedback and the rating.

Akismet may stop spam from being on the website itself but it just tosses the unfiltered spam dangerously through remote mail relays. Some of the recipients of these Akismet notification emails will be using an aggressive blocklist provider without knowing it for their mail filtration. This gets mail servers flagged and added to global blocklists over time, which can take months of negotiation and fees to be removed.
