• What is the difference between the $35/yr BBPress plugin extension you offer and the free BBPress plugin you can download?

  • BBpress UI and UX are notoriously poor and sub par to most professional forums. If that’s what you want on your site, then why even pay for it?

This comment was extremely unhelpful. It does not indicate at all the difference between the ultimate member page extension and the free version, which is what I was asking. If you don’t like this option then perhaps you would want to suggest an alternative. Simply degrading and extension without any other option is not helpful

why should there be a “difference”?

The only difference is that UM is brilliant, BBpress? Not so.

The UM extension is basically allowing you to incorporate a badly designed forum so you can get all this:

Transfer bbPress user profile to Ultimate Member user profile automatically
All forum user links automatically redirected to Ultimate Member profile
Creates a forums tab on the Ultimate Member profile
Shows a user’s topics and replies on the forums tab
Shows count of topics and replies on profile
Allows user to control subscriptions and favorites from their profile
Lets you setup which roles can have a forums tab on their profile
Needs no bbPress template editing – works out of the box!

    Content Restriction Features

Allow forums to be accessed by certain user roles
Allow topics to be accessed by certain user roles
Control which roles can post topics or replies in specific forum(s)
Allow/prevent a specific user role from creating new topics/replies in forums
Disable creation of new topics on specific week days on a user role basis
Manually disable creating new topics on user role basis

    I hope this helps,

Thank you. Now THAT (The UM extension is basically allowing you to incorporate a badly designed forum so you can get all this:) is helpful! It wasn’t clear that the extension is a “bridge” between UM and BBPress as opposed to a “custom” version of the plugin. I still need to install the plugin.

Do you have a suggestion for an alternate forum plugin that will work with UM, or just use BBPress without the extension?

    Thank you, Boris.

Alas, there is no professional grade forum alternative that I am aware of.
