BBPress disappears when Monalisa is activated

I’ve recently started a test site to see what the capabilities of BBPress are. I first downloaded it as a stand alone script and very soon found that most of the plugins that are listed at BBPress don’t work. WP-Monalisa also didn’t work. BBPress wouldn’t allow me to install the plugin.

I then started a WordPress site with BBPress as a Plugin, hoping that plugins would work better in a WordPress script. I’m able to download WP-Monalisa, but when I activate it my BBPress forum disappears.

I’m on the most recent version of WordPress.

In the WP-Monalisa dashboard it says:
Please turn off Settings -> Writing -> ‘Convert emoticons like…’ to use wp-Monalisa smilies).

But that must be for an older version of WordPress as I don’t have that in my settings/writing tab. This is what my Settings/Writing dashboard looks like:

I did all of the usual things. Disabled the theme and used a WordPress standard theme. Disabled the Ultimate Member plugin. That didn’t make a difference. Whenever I activate WP-Monalisa it disables the BBPress Forum. The BBPress Forum disappears. When I deactivate WP-Monalisa the BBPress Forum is back again.

Any solution you could offer? ??
