    Hi there,

    I’m just trying to get some clarity on something relating to bbcode support with the GD bbPress Tools plugin.

    I’ve been testing a few of the bbcode options and, of course, things work perfectly fine within bbpress. I’m also looking for something that works with the default WordPress comments system as well.

    I’ve unticked the option for “Limit to bbpress only”, but on my site at least, that doesn’t seem to do the trick which suggests I need to do a bit more work. There do appear to be a few plugins that allow this, however they haven’t been updated in over a decade or more so while they might work, I’m hesitant to use them if the plugins are no longer being maintained.

    I just wanted to see if there’s a way you can recommend this to work?

    Shortcodes don’t work in comments by default, there are some code tweaks to enable it, but there is no option in WordPress to do that. Shortcodes by default work in posts only.

    The option in my plugin to ‘Limit to bbPress Only’, if disabled, will process shortcodes regardless of the post type, but to enable it in comments or elsewhere is not supported, and you can try some code tweaks to do so.

    Some BBCodes can cause problems in BuddyPress (due to their templates system), so that is why by default BBCodes are limited to bbPress only.
