• Hello. I want to backup my site from file manager so that I can run a dummy test site from my external drive. I’ve two questions, pls.
    (1) Will it be enough if I backup all the files inside cPanel>public-html? Or are there other files in File Manager that I should back up too?
    (2) After I’ve made my external backup, how do I open the external test copy of my site?
    Many thanks

  • As there is a database involved copying just the files won’t be enough.

You’ll probably want to use the ‘migrate’ feature of a backup or migration plugin to create a working copy WordPress install on your local box.

My suggestion would be to use a machine that ‘matches’ your production server as closely as you can get but you can run WordPress on a Windows-based box to support a Linux-based production or origin server.
