• This might be kind of a stupid question, but I’m throwing it out there so I might understand:

Why do people use Flickr Gallery for their blogs, why don’t they just host the pictures themselves on their blog?

Correct me if I’m wrong, Flickr is a site that stores pictures for people. By using the Flickr Gallery plugin with the Flickr website, they are essentially storing their pictures on another website (Flickr website) and then pointing to it from their blog? Are people doing this to save bandwidth? Does Flickr the website provide a lot of tools and utility that plugins can replicate and so people are using Flickr (plugin and website) to make use of these advantages?

Any insight would be great, I’m trying to decide if I should use this plugin with my blog or just find something else that will allow me to store the images on my own server space.

    Thanks again.

  • All of the above. ??
    -Saves bandwidth
    -Very easy to use/upload photos
-You can add other Flickr members to your contact list, so you can see their new pictures when they upload them, and they can see yours
-Your contacts are listed, so it’s easier for users to browse to your album, or browse to others, etc.
    -Users can leave comments
-Bloggers using the badge can choose to display their own photos, or random photos from others – kinda cool to discover new things.

I’m sure there are lots of other cool things that Flickr can do now, and will be able to do in the future, but those are just a few of the features that I like. ??

And also, accounts are currently free, so you can always give it a shot, and if there’s nothing interesting there, you haven’t lost any thing. ??

You don’t even need a plugin to use Flickr. There’s a “Blog This” feature on Flickr, you enter a few of your site details in your Flickr account and you can blog any photo on the site to your blog at the press of a button. Of course, not all the photos on the site are licensed for all uses, but there are even thousands of Creative Commons licensed photos on Flickr that you can post.

Flickr is great. If you look at my site; https://www.davidbabylon.com, I use the Flickr Daily Zietgiest to show all of my current photos in a flash bar on the side of my page allowing any visitors to instantyl see any of thee pictures they click on and then comment on them, leave notes, etc.

Its just so easy to integrate into whatever blog system you use, WorPress, Blogger, etc.

Also, if you use a flash badge like davidbabylon, you have the option of just showing specific pictures from your collection. For instance, if you want to show only pictures from your birthday party in your flash badge on your site, just pick out those pictures when customizing the badge.
