• I have a new web site that I have developed, but can’t use the existing name or URL. I use stablehost to host the site. I have not publicized the site, it is not available to search engines, yet.

    Questions:
    1) what is the easiest way to change the domain name and URL? Please remember that I don’t need and can’t have the old site available.
    2) how do I establish redirects so that on the off chance someone tries to access the old site, they will automatically be directed to the new site?

Note that I have seen some instructions on how to make the switch, but they seem overly complicated and focused on those who have established sites. I’m guessing there is an easier way.

    Thanks

    1. If you have command line access, use the wp-cli “search-replace” command. If not, the plugin “better search replace” is the best way to search for https://oldexample.com and replace with https://newexample.com Before doing so, make sure that the new domain points to your site.

    2. You’d do this via your domain registrar and set up a domain forward.
