• In an attempt to diagnose my site’s JavaScript execution time, I created a staging site, disabled all plugins, and switched to the barebones Twenty Twenty theme.

Then I ran my staging site through Google’s Lighthouse page speed report. To my surprise, I got HUGE JavaScript execution times and plenty of “Main Thread Work”. A lot more than my main optimized site.

So my question is this: Is it a foregone conclusion that even the most basic WordPress installation with all plugins disabled and the most lightweight theme will get warnings about JavaScript execution, script evaluation times, and massive “style & layout” timings?

Is this just the price one pays for using WordPress?
